Why is it so expensive to fly from Dallas TX to Fresno, CA?
I don't understand why its so expensive to fly from Dallas to Fresno. I've seen flights to exotic countries in other continents for as much or even cheaper. Can someone please explain why passengers get the shaft just because they want to go to Fresno from Dallas. Both DFW and FAT are international airports. Grrrrr

Not many folks go to Fresno and there must not be many airlines that go there.

When flights are full to capacity and the return flight is full as well the airline can charge less. I've never flown to Fresno, but if the flights aren't full or the return flights to Dallas don't fill up they have to charge more to cover their cost. The airlines are in business to make money and they'll do whatever it takes.

I hear you, because it's equally expensive to fly to anywhere in Virginia. Airlines in Dallas charge a premium and they assume that we can and will pay it. And if the only airline that flies out there is American Airlines, you're screwed. Try Airtran...they've always been cheap for me.

DFW airport is controlled by American Airlines, so they charge much more for flights out of dallas than other cities with similar or longer flights. It is much cheaper to drive to Houston get on a plane stop in Dallas and continue on the flight, than board in Dallas. Many travelers would book a flight through Dallas, and walk off the plane, because it was cheaper than booking the flight to Dallas. The airlines tried to claim this was illegal, but they can't enforce the rule as long as you don't check luggage. Competition lowers prices and since American has 80% of all flights out of DFW they can charge more than they do at other air ports.
