What are the best cities for a flight attendant to be based in?
Due to the reason that the first year's salary is approximately less than $25k per year, I wanted to find a city with a good cost-of-living that has good cheap studios (I won't be home much and really don't want a roommate.), decent public transportation (I don't plan on buying a car.), and one where there is a decent city/night-life. I also want it to have a very low crime rate. Just so you know, my airlines offer a lot of California cities for options, i.e. Fresno, San Diego, Sacramento, etc. I have already been "hired" for training. I also know they will assign me where they want me to stay. However, my recruiter says I have an "option" to choose my PREFERENCES. I just want to make sure I choose the best options when consulted. If I have no preferences stated, they could put me where every one else DOESN'T want to go! I definitely do not want that.

First things first. Before you pack your bags, you have to find a US airline that is actually hiring. Most, if any, are not, and are contemplating layoffs. Point two, when you are a "new hire" flight attendant at any airline, you don't get to pick where you are assigned. The airline does that for you based on the needs of the company. Good Luck.

Cheap cost-of-living, good public transport, and vibrant night-life. And low crime rate. If you find it, let me know. I've lived and been around a lot and I've never found that combo. Portland, Oregon, maybe? You can live in New Orleans and have the first three, though forget low crime rate. And the public transport doesn't really go to the airport (there is a bus I've heard, though). California has the highest cost-of-living in the nation after NYC. Great for night-life (LA and SF) and public transport (SF--not LA). Houston does great for cost-of-living (esp. close to airports) and night-life (downtown) but you'll need a car. NYC metro area, maybe--you could live pretty far out along a commuter train line and take it into the city maybe. If I were a stewardess I would frankly pick a hub in suburbia (Fresno, Sacramento, Houston, etc.) and get a cheap car and a nice place with a low crime rate. You will find friends and places to hang out in any city. The fact of the matter is, you're going to be spending the night all over the place with your work colleagues...just try to find some fun ones and go out with them on whatever town you end up in. Good luck and have fun!!!!

1) You will be based where your airline tells you. 2) You will be too tired and poor to have much of nightlife. 3) California cities have far more crime than most other states. 4) As a new hire, you will get the least desirable routes. 5) Latest Hired, First Fired - Airlines use a Seniority system. 6) Good Luck!

It depends on the airline that you are flying for. For example, Delta Airlines flight attendants are based in Atlanta. American Airlines flight attendants are based in Dallas. Continental Airlines flight attendants are based in Houston. Northwest Airlines flight attendants are based in Memphis etc. These are the hub( most popular operating cities for the airlines. NYC, LA, Miami, and Chicago are the best cities to be stationed if you are not in the hub location. --- If you are looking to live in a city with the best cost of living, you should choose Delta Airlines because Atlanta is one of the cheapest priced major cities. *** If you are stationed where nobody wants to go, you will be on RESERVE for LESS TIME. I would choose an unpopular destination with a low cost of living. After all, you will be gone alot anyway.
